Marcello

Several times I was on the watch at the oil well in the territorial waters not far from
port San-Luis. I want to mention that oil well-boring at floating plants that work in
protected backwaters is a very serious business and it demands wholehearted work
from each of us. There are many different ways of well-boring from special vessels
working in unprotected parts of sea. I won’t go into technical details as it can only
tire uninformed people, but I’d like to say that presently at days of advance the use
of floating plants is to a certain extent limited by the depth of a sea.
The deeper a sea is, the more difficult is to use floating plants and of course none
of us is proof against making mistakes. That’s why bonding of boring platforms
still depends on conditions at the bottom of the sea. Quality and quantity of fossil
fuel also depend on the depth of boring well. It is impossible to avoid accidents in
such hard work. Territories of some countries and sea shelves are not studied well
enough. That’s’ why even a slight storm can become a reason of friends’ deaths.
This cannot be tolerated, but if only you lost courage, hung your head, lost hope-
the elements would swallow you up.
Two types of people won’t survive in our profession: betrayers and wimps, the first
are punished by people, the second-by their fate. And it is doubly offensive as not
every weak guy is bad not that every sturdy fellow is a picture of decency.
I’d like to tell you the story of my workmate, a Frenchman who was born in
California
, but lived in Paris for 10 years. Marcelo and I spent together nine long
months in the backwaters. He appeared at the well at the beginning of March as
thin as a rake and it seemed that the slightest storm could knock him down. But
this youngster’s character was as strong as steel. He worked equally with others
not only when remains of oil gushed forth and it wasn’t very difficult to mine them
but also when we reached the depth of several kilometers and pumping was very
hard. Notwithstanding he was not of sturdy build by nature he didn’t give up and
even being very tired, ready to drop at the end of shift Marcelo stubbornly resisted
the elements.
Once the pressure in the oil-bed dropped so much that the oil stopped going up and
we had to pump water into collector and inject oil with high-powered pumps. The
lower pressure is the more difficult is to mine black gold. The work at collector
that day fell to Marcelo’s lot. I won’t go into details of this awful accident I’ll only
say that Marcello broke his left hand. It seemed that he had nothing to do except
returning to dry land. But he decided to stay in the hospital and undergo medical
treatment. He was put the arm in plaster.
Two months went by, his bones knitted, he started to do physical exercises, every
day he was working at self-improvement for hours. It isn’t an easy job to train
a broken arm. He used small dumb-bells and bottles with water to strengthen
muscles. Marcelo started taking proviron, which is rather popular among

bodybuilders. These pills don’t provoke anabolic dependence, have a positive
impact on production of testosterone without increasing its normal concentration
and remove different kinds of disorders caused by negative features of this male
hormone.
Generally most professional athletes use proviron after completing steroid course
in order to raise decreased sexual interest. But Marcelo owing to this drug in a
literal sense increased muscle bulk and made his muscles more firm and elastic. He
achieved grandiose results –he not only recovered his broken hand but also raised
his power characteristics in a very short time. He wasn’t returned to oil mining but
left our floating plant being a real man, knowing the real value of hard men’s work.
He promised to return to the next watch and press out all the oil completely.
And we believed him as we had no doubts that any elements can’t knock such man
as Marcelo down.
